Todd Johnson, Team Manager
Co-Owner: Surf Camp Pacifica
Growing up in Pacifica, Ca I was introduced to the ocean at a young age. My Dad being an avid surfer and fisherman I was at the beach a lot. As I got older surfing became an outlet as well as a competitive sport for me. After high school, I started teaching surf lessons at Linda Mar Beach for Surf Camp Pacifica. Soon after that I started designing and shaping my own boards and having none other than JZ glass them. Turns out JZ had glassed almost every board I ever owned, from Neptunes, to Clarks, to my own Johnson Board Co brand.
In 2012, the sport of wakesurfing turned into one of the fastest growing water sports in the country and I was right there competing, shaping, and coaching the world's best on the World Series of Wakesurfing. Over the years, I've had the privilege to shape and coach for multiple world champions. My boards were honored as the official board of the world series of wakesurfing in 2013 and are still considered some of the best in the sport.
In 2017, I became the Co-Owner and operator of Surf Camp Pacifica. Today, we run our famous summer surf camps along with special events and private lessons.
I feel so blessed and I'm so grateful that surfing has become my career, and I'm honored to officially be part of the JZ Surfboards family.

"I’m stoked to finally be riding boards made specifically for me. They feel like such a natural extension of me that I almost forget it’s there. Thank you Joel!"

"I have ridden many shapes and shapers’ boards and Joel has over exceeded anything they produce. I know when I go to lay into a turn it’s me and the board. I want everyone to know that what you ask for in a board he
delivers! I stand by his knowledge and experience every time. He knows how every board should be shaped."

Honestly, Joel’s invitation to be a team rider is flattering. He’s meticulous about every aspect of making boards and keeps detailed files.
I grew up in a pretty talented surfing family and I learned the basics as a kid, but focused on other sports through high school so I’ve put a lot of effort into catching up these past couple years. Joel knows that and designs boards that accomplish 2 goals: firstly boards that fit my current level, and secondly have a plus-one element that requires progression. I want the added pressure of a design that is a bit ahead of me because I have high expectations of myself.
Joel really gives a shit about the design needs of everyone who orders a board from him. That’s rare. Joel’s boards are diamonds for the roughs of NorCal beachbreaks.
Joel’s boards are like your favorite beer koozie: just reaching for it makes ya happy!
